Matthew Edelstein is a senior equipment appraiser and principal at Sencer Appraisal Associates, leading the firm’s East Coast appraisal practice from Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. He holds the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designation from the American Society of Appraisers in Machinery & Technical Specialties, with a specialty in Machinery & Equipment, and has completed the Society’s Advanced Multidisciplinary Healthcare Valuation Education Program.
Matt’s path to equipment appraisal began with more than a decade in the financial industry. Before joining Sencer Appraisal in 2007, he spent four years in mutual fund valuation and process engineering at State Street Bank and seven years as Vice President of Fund Accounting and Valuation at Truist Bank and its subsidiaries in Atlanta. That financial services valuation experience continues to inform his approach to appraisal assignments, particularly matters involving financial reporting and complex valuation questions.
From his Chadds Ford base, Matt serves clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic, the Eastern United States, and beyond. His client experience includes government and state agencies; national, regional, and community banks and other financial institutions; insurance companies; charitable organizations; business brokers; private equity firms; legal and accounting firms; private individuals; and businesses ranging from sole proprietorships to Fortune 500 corporations.
Experience
Across nearly two decades of equipment appraisal practice, Matt has performed assignments for financial reporting, mergers and acquisitions, SBA and asset-based lending, bankruptcy and restructuring, insurance placement, estate and gift taxation, litigation support, eminent domain, and corporate planning. He works with each client to identify the assignment’s intended use, the appropriate definition of value, and the reporting requirements, then develops an appraisal opinion tailored to those needs.
His work spans construction and transportation, agriculture and food processing, restaurants and food service, wineries and breweries, medical and healthcare, and manufacturing, among other industries.
Matt regularly works with publicly traded corporations, privately held businesses, financial institutions, accounting firms, attorneys, trustees, government agencies, and multinational organizations. Typical engagements involve fair value measurement, purchase price allocation, impairment analysis, fair market value conclusions, orderly and forced liquidation value, and other complex valuation matters requiring independent, well-supported opinions.
Matt has provided deposition testimony and testimony in matters in Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, and New York.
