Garrett is a senior equipment appraiser and managing partner at Sencer Appraisal Associates. He was elected as International President and Chair of the Board of Governors of the American Society of Appraisers, serving from 2023 to 2024, and served as editor of the fourth edition of the ASA’s foundational textbook, Valuing Machinery and Equipment: The Fundamentals of Appraising Machinery and Technical Assets, published in 2020. The ASA honored him as Appraiser of the Year in 2023.
His credentials include the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designation in Machinery & Technical Specialties from the American Society of Appraisers and the Certified Equipment Appraiser (CEA) designation from the Association of Machinery and Equipment Appraisers (AMEA). Within the ASA, he has also served as International Vice President, International Secretary/Treasurer, Region Governor for the Western United States, Australia, and the Asian Pacific Rim, and as president of both the ASA International Virtual Chapter and the ASA Northern California Chapter.
Based in Northern California, Garrett has performed equipment appraisals for clients across the United States, Mexico, Asia, and Europe. His clients have included the United States Department of Justice, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the United States military, local and regional banks, charitable organizations, business brokers, legal and accounting firms, private individuals, and business clients from single-proprietorships to Fortune 5 corporations.
Experience
Garrett Schwartz has two decades of experience performing machinery and equipment appraisals and valuation consulting assignments for clients throughout the United States and internationally. His work includes valuation assignments prepared for financial reporting, acquisition and divestiture analysis, SBA and asset-based lending, bankruptcy and restructuring, insurance placement, estate and gift taxation, litigation support, and corporate planning purposes.
Garrett has performed appraisals involving manufacturing facilities, industrial machinery, process plants, food and beverage operations, construction equipment, transportation assets, agricultural equipment, healthcare assets, technology-related equipment, and specialized technical assets across a broad range of industries.
His valuation experience includes assignments for publicly traded corporations, privately held businesses, financial institutions, accounting firms, attorneys, trustees, government agencies, and multinational organizations. He has worked on projects involving fair value measurement, purchase price allocation, impairment analysis, fair market value, orderly and forced liquidation value, and other complex valuation matters requiring independent and well-supported appraisal opinions.
Garrett has performed valuation assignments for assets throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Mexico involving both individual assets and large integrated operating facilities. His experience includes appraisals of complex manufacturing operations, distribution facilities, and specialized industrial assets requiring detailed market research, cost analysis, and technical evaluation.
